Ageing in Place Workshop Series

Words Anney Ardiel, Canadian Association of Retired Persons

The Canadian Association of Retired Persons (CARP) Vancouver Island Chapter, in partnership with Beacon Community Services, is pleased to announce a four-part workshop series this October designed to help seniors take charge of their health, safety, and future.

“Ageing in place is about more than just staying in your home – it’s about thriving there,” says Brenda Harfield from CARP Vancouver Island. “We’re excited to partner with Beacon Community Services to offer seniors the tools and knowledge they need to plan for a safe, healthy and fulfilling future.”

Titled “Taking Action: Ageing in Place,” this in-person series takes place on four consecutive Tuesdays – October 7, 14, 21 and 28 – from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the SHOAL Centre, 10030 Resthaven Drive in Sidney. Doors open at 9 a.m. All senior members of the public are welcome.

Each session will focus on a key aspect of ageing well at home:

October 7:
Your Safety at Home

October 14:
Your Personal Health

October 21:
Your Financial Health

October 28:
Accessing Health Care

With a maximum of 40 participants, the workshop offers an intimate, supportive environment to learn practical strategies and resources to maintain independence and improve quality of life. The $40 per person fee includes all four workshops, a refreshment break at each session, and a copy of Options Open: The Guide for Mapping Your Best Aging Journey by Sue Lantz – an essential guide to planning your later years with confidence.

Beacon Community Services, a longstanding local nonprofit dedicated to supporting seniors and families on the Saanich Peninsula, brings deep expertise in community care and connection to this initiative. Together, CARP Vancouver Island and Beacon Community Services aim to empower seniors with the resources and confidence to navigate their aging journey with clarity and dignity.

Advance registration is required, and space is limited. Tickets can be purchased at the SHOAL Centre reception at 10030 Resthaven Drive in Sidney or by calling 250-656-5537.
