With the arrival of summer, it’s time to revamp your skincare routine. As we spend more time outdoors and increase our sun exposure, its essential to adapt your skincare to keep your skin nourished and protected.
Sun Protection & Reapplication
Gone are the days of baking ourselves in the sun or laying in our backyards to get that sun-kissed glow. With the rise of skin cancer and sun-related health concerns, not to mention staying out of the sun to avoid premature aging, finishing your morning skincare with a broad spectrum SPF is a non-negotiable step of your routine, all year round but especially at this time of year.
After you’ve completed your routine and applied sun protection products, if you choose to apply makeup over your SPF look for something lightweight such as a tinted moisturizer, bb cream or mineral powder containing SPF for an added protective layer. Reapplying your sun protection every few hours is also a must. I recommend a dry powder sunscreen that can be used on its own or applied over makeup every few hours. For body protection, look for mineral-based, reef safe organic options that should also be reapplied every few hours and after swimming.
Faux Glow
Missing that tanned sun-kissed glow but don’t want to compromise your skin? There are many safe faux tanning options available. I love an organic spray tan for my skin, which offers a natural-looking glow. If you prefer a DIY approach, reach for an organic tanning mousse or gradual tan lotion to build a beautiful bronzed look to your liking.
Refresh, Exfoliate & Hydrate
To achieve a truly radiant complexion, don’t forget exfoliation. Regularly slough off dead skin cells to reveal fresh and rejuvenated skin. Select gentle exfoliators with ingredients that include fruit enzymes or AHAs to keep your skin smooth and glowing. Incorporate exfoliation into your routine once or twice a week, but be mindful not to overdo it. If you choose to use a retinol, keep in mind you absolutely need to be using sun protection with this product. Follow up with a nourishing moisturizer and oils to keep your newly revealed skin deeply hydrated and glowing. Remember to drink plenty of water to hydrate from within, which will also have great benefits for your skin’s overall health.
Treatments
In addition to your skin essentials, try incorporating a few extra steps into your routine. Treat your skin to a nourishing mask once or twice a week to deeply hydrate while addressing extra concerns such as skin brightness and elasticity. Don’t forget your lips! Our delicate lip area can also be treated with gentle lip scrubs, lip masks and an SPF when heading outside!
