Local Charity Hosts Community-Building Fundraiser

Words Power To Be

A weekend to get outside, give back and have fun.

Power To Be is a registered charity that creates access to nature for youth, adults and families living with cognitive, physical, financial and social barriers. From May 29 to 31 Power To Be will host their biggest community event of the year – Power To Play: Summit & Race – combining two of their beloved fundraising events into one dynamic weekend of adventure, teamwork and purpose.

Power To Play launched in 2009 and became Power To Be’s signature event for over a decade. When the pandemic disrupted in-person gatherings, the organization responded with creativity and heart, launching Power To Summit in 2020. Since then, it has raised more than $1.8 million for inclusive, nature-based programs.

Power To Summit is a three-day elevation challenge. Inspired by the legendary climb to Mount Everest, teams of four will work together to “reach the summit” through accumulated elevation, and can participate from anywhere in the world. Elevation can be gained anywhere: a hiking trail, an inclined street, a flight of stairs or a neighbourhood hill.

Power To Play is a high-energy, one-day adventure race taking place at Power To Be’s fully accessible Prospect Lake site on Sunday, May 31. Teams of four will make their way through an exhilarating course featuring 15 action-filled challenge stations requiring problem-solving, teamwork and the willingness to have fun (and get a little dirty!).

That collective effort is what makes this weekend matter.”
