WITH SYMPATHY
Our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Clive Tanner, who passed away on September 9, 2022. Clive was passionate about reading and originally opened Tanner’s Books on Beacon Avenue. He was well loved in the community and had the original vision for Sidney as a book town.

SCHOOL & COMMUNITY NEWS

Congratulations
Saanich School District, in partnership with VIU, is delighted to be celebrating their first ever Education Assistant and Community Support Certificate Program Graduation. This program just completed its first year and some of the graduates have already been hired by the district! This program is an excellent example of one of the many amazing opportunities available to students in the Saanich School District.

Municipal Elections
The local election campaigns are well underway for the municipal election this month. Visit your local municipality webpage for information on candidates and voting dates.

CONSTRUCTION ALERTS

Road Work
Road users along Beacon Avenue West and Galaran Road should expect traffic disruptions until the end of October while storm drain installation and road repaving is underway. Sidewalks are also being built on Galaran Road and Beacon Avenue West as recommended in the West Side Local Area Plan. Best to take an alternate route if possible during this time.

The Keating Flyover project is projected to start work in fall 2022 and aims to be completed in the spring of 2025. Watch the official government website for updates to the project: tinyurl.com/243cac2u.

Travel Advisory
The Victoria Airport has started a roof replacement on parts of the air terminal building, that will continue through October 30. This work will require the front curb to have very limited access on select dates and times for a four-hour window. During these times, the public will be advised, and free parking will be available in the Short Term Lot. Updates can be found on the Victoria Airport Authority Facebook page at www.facebook.com/Victoria.International.Airport.
