Victoria Film Festival (VFF) is celebrating its 21st year and the Festival is stepping out to Sidney! Partnering up with Sidney BIA, the Mary Winspear Centre and Star Cinema, the Victoria Film Festival will have screenings in Sidney February 7 – 14th. “Sidney has become such a vibrant community, one that appreciates cinema,” said Festival Director, Kathy Kay. “Victoria Film Festival just had to share the love and bring our great independent films to town.” In Sidney, the VFF will have three matinee and eight evening screenings, as well as co-hosting a Family Day event at the Charlie White Theatre on Monday, February 9th, 2015.
The VFF has been part of Victoria’s art and culture scene for 21 years and prides itself on exposing the community to a wide range of ideas and lifestyles through the year-round presentation of film, video and new media. In 2014, the ten-day festival brought over 75 films to Victoria and 2014 attendance was close to 25,000. Over the 10 day program, multiple events take place including: the Opening Gala, FilmCAN, Springboard, Sip’n’Cinema, In Conversation … , and a Family Day event for families to celebrate together. Encouraging self-expression and creativity through film, the VFF holds the student FilmCAN competition, which is open to students from Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands to make a short film and compete to be shown at the VFF.
