COMMUNITY
Raising the Bar

It may be March, but play is always in season on the Peninsula. Just ask the children who are enjoying the latest addition to Centennial Park in Central Saanich: a new playground. Funded by a Government of B.C. Community Recreation Program grant, the municipality worked with Canadian playground company Henderson Recreation, along with local contractor Michell’s Excavation, to create the new play area. Located next to the field house and main parking area, the playground was completed in December and features barrier-free pathways, park furniture, new landscaping and irrigation system along with two distinct separated play areas for older and younger children, with inclusive features for all children to enjoy. Learn about more upcoming enhancements to Centennial Park at www.centralsaanich.ca.

ENTERTAINMENT
The Best Seat in the House

“Please take your seats,” a brand-new beautiful blue seat that is, at Sidney’s Star Cinema. The new seats, which boast armrests and are much more comfortable than their 45-year-old predecessors, were installed in late December. Tremendous gratitude goes out to a community of supporters and fundraisers who made it happen and raised over $185,000 for the seats and two recently purchased digital projectors. Staff will soon be installing name plaques on behalf of seat donors and announcing a date for their upcoming Gala. Stay tuned and find out more about upcoming films and events. http://tinyurl.com/mfpeawm.
