The 24th annual Pacific Brant Carving and Art Show will be held at the Mary Winspear Centre in Sidney on Saturday April 5th and Sunday April 6th. Admission is $5 per person or $10 for a family pass, with children 12 and under free. The show opens at 10 a.m. both days and features a wildlife woodcarving competition, a woodturnings competition, an art show and free demos. Nature painters, sculptors, photographers and others will have their work on display and for sale. New this year is a kids’ painting event, where youth 10 and over will show their talents painting at wood duck carving on Sunday afternoon from 1 to 2:30 p.m.
Cocktail carving entries will be auctioned off to the highest bidder on Saturday evening at 7 p.m., plus you will be able to bid on numerous items in the Silent Auction. On Saturday at 1 p.m. you can watch the decoy floating event.
The show has woodcarvers competing for cash awards and ribbons awarded in four skill levels: Novice, Intermediate, Advanced and Expert in Wildlife, Non-wildlife, Fish and Woodturnings. Each competition has numerous Divisions and Categories in the four skill levels, so carvers and turners get to compete at the same level of proficiency. Carvers advance through the four levels of competition by winning Best of Division ribbons. All entries are judged by a panel of carvers, biologists and naturalists. Come and see what we can do with a block of wood! For more information, visit www.thebrant.ca or email Dennis Drechsler, Show Chair, at ddrex@shaw.ca.
