Summer Music in Beacon Park

Enjoy relaxing afternoons listening to music every Sunday through July and August at the “Shell” on Beacon Park, foot of Beacon Avenue. Bring your own lawn chair or blanket. These events are presented by the Peninsula Celebrations Society: donations gratefully accepted to help the Society put on future community events. July 5th , 2 – 4 p.m.: Salsa Caliente. July 12th , 2 – 4 p.m.: Naden Band. July 19th , 2 – 4 p.m.: Bijou de Bayou. July 26th 2 – 4 p.m.: Kids Day! Three Artists to Enjoy

Drop in to the Village Gallery to see West Coast art by three very different Island artists: Bev Byerley, Linda Heslop and Keith Hiscock. Their styles range from impressionistic to realistic and all strive to capture the essence of the Pacific Northwest. Through July. Village Gallery at 2459 Beacon Ave.

Tim Rogers: An Evening of Words and Songs

Author and folk singer Tim Rogers will talk about and read from his new book The Mystery of the SS Southern Cross – a fictional account of the tragic and mysterious sinking of the sealer off Newfoundland’s southeast coast in 1914. His novel intertwines the vibrant pre-war Newfoundland setting with the rich and complex events that led to this great tragedy, and honours the memory of her gallant crew. An accomplished musician, Tim Rogers will perform songs drawn from Newfoundland’s tradition that touch on the times and setting of the book. This special event is a fundraiser for the 2015 Sidney and Peninsula Literary Festival. Outdoor Theatre by the Peninsula Players

Looking to entertain out-of-town guests? Take them to the Muse Winery to enjoy musical theatre with wine and a meal. In “Space Wars: The Empire Strikes Blanc,” the evil galactic empire has devised the ultimate weapon: a lovebot. Written by Sasha Moriarty-Schieven with music adapted from a variety of sources, this will be a fun occasion for all. Show tickets: $25 from Muse Winery. Opening night: July 11, 7.30 p.m. Also July 18 at 7.30 p.m. and July 19 at 3 p.m. Continues through August.

Artists at Sidney’s Community Gallery

At Tulista Gallery Sabine Lecorre and Aurélia Bizouard will be painting each day and experimenting with the colours and textures of the West Coast. Perfect chance to chat with the artists. Free. July 6 – 9, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Gallery at Tulista Park, 9565 Fifth Street. Later in July, the abstract and impressionistic oil paintings of Michelle Lan, inspired by the natural world, will be on display.July 10 – 22 at Tulista Gallery.
