Family Fun … Come Get Your Share!

There’s no better example of a family-friendly environment than the Sidney Family Day LEGO Weekend, taking place February 8th to 10th.

On the heels of the wildly fun and successful 2013 Sidney Family Day LEGO event, this year a number of community organizations and businesses are teaming up for a full three-day weekend of Sidney Family Day LEGO fun! This year’s event has also partnered with the Sidney Fire Department, in recognition of their 100th Anniversary. LEGO displays, interactive building opportunities, a treasure hunt and a professional LEGO builder are just some of the reasons to spend time in Sidney for the 2014 Sidney Family Day LEGO Weekend. Due to overwhelming attendance in 2013, this year’s event takes place over three days, and in a variety of venues throughout town. There will be so much more to see, and to build!

The 2014 Sidney Family Day Weekend kicks off with a full day of special LEGO displays and programming at the Shaw Ocean Discovery Centre on Saturday February 8th. Underwater LEGO? Absolutely!

On Sunday February 9th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sidney welcomes back Robin Sather, Canada’s only LEGO professional. Robin will be on site at the Sidney Fire Hall for a special open house, and he’ll be building a large scale model of one of Sidney’s own fire trucks. Check out fire trucks on display, find out if you have what it takes to be a fire fighter, and support the Sidney Fire Department in their 100th anniversary year.

Monday February 10th will find Robin Sather at the Mary Winspear Centre from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a day of family fun and interactive building. Visitors will help Robin build a large LEGO mosaic, which will become the backdrop for the previous day’s fire truck piece, both of which will be on display at the Sidney Museum at its popular annual LEGO exhibit on display from January 2nd until the end of March each year. There will also be large LEGO play areas for all ages, and families can expect to spend quality time together with plenty of space for everyone to explore and build. In addition to all that good fun, the Mary Winspear Centre has offered space for community organizations to showcase all that Sidney has to offer for families.

Along with these scheduled events, Sidney Family Day Weekend would not be complete without the 2nd Annual LEGO Treasure Hunt. Explore the shops of Sidney in search of exciting LEGO displays, and enter your completed treasure map at the Sidney Museum for your chance to win some wonderful prizes.
