On Wednesday, September 30 starting at 4 p.m., the Sidney community will come together to welcome the 2026 Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock team to town. Everyone is invited to gather at the Sidney Community Safety Building, located at 2245 Oakville Avenue, to cheer on the riders as they continue their inspiring journey across Vancouver Island.
A highlight of the event will be a community fundraising barbecue hosted by the Sidney Lions Club. Thanks to the generous support of Sidney Thrifty Foods, which is donating the food, visitors can enjoy a delicious burger while supporting a great cause. All proceeds from the barbecue will go directly to Tour de Rock, helping fund childhood cancer research and support programs through the Canadian Cancer Society.
Come welcome the riders, support local fundraising efforts, and enjoy time with family, friends, and neighbours. The barbecue offers a meaningful way for everyone to get involved in a special cause. Every burger purchased and every donation made will help make a difference for children and families facing cancer.
The annual Cops for Cancer Tour de Rock is one of British Columbia’s most recognized charitable events. Each year, police officers and emergency service personnel commit to an intensive 14-day cycling tour from one end of Vancouver Island to the other, raising funds and awareness for childhood cancer research and support programs. Along the route, communities rally behind the riders, celebrating not only the physical challenge they undertake but also the young cancer fighters and families whose lives are impacted by the disease.
This year’s event holds special significance for Sidney Fire, as two members of the department will be proudly representing our community as part of the 2026 Tour de Rock team. Their commitment extends far beyond the ride itself, involving months of training, fundraising, and community engagement in support of children and families facing cancer.
